Non-profit marketing success

Silent Heroes of the Cold War was a small loose-knit organization, but passionate about its obscure mission. For years it struggled with trying to get the word out by mouth. But in 2005 they met me, Kyril Plaskon a reporter and author with a non-profit background and a passion for helping marginalized people and victims tell their stories.

I wrote and published their story, breathing new life into Silent Heroes of the Cold War. Their mission of a National Memorial to their cause is now beiing fullfilled with congressional recognition, published acknowledgement by the Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and a national audience is now jumping on board with funding.

Silent Heroes of the Cold War now truly has national momentum in a movement that may change the way we see Cold War history and its victims. But more important than any monument, is a permanent published record that donors and benneficiaries can stand behind and be proud of, ensuring that the mission of the organization will endure.

In less than a year Silent Heroes of the Cold War recovered all its expenses for publishing this entertaining story and getting out their message. Non-profits nation-wide like them are passionate about their mission, but the fatal marketing flaw is the inefficient way they try to tell their stories. Word of mouth has the insurmountable limit of time, yours and theirs. Your story is worth telling and so let's put your heart in it and sell it. Take your mission to the next level. People want to know about the good work you are doing, the suffering you are alleviating, the pride you are bringing and they want to help you. But they need to fully understand your project with the depth it deserves and be entertained by the story of your passionate mission. Lets share it and publish it to make the permanent record available in libraries and bookstores around the world.

Nation's First Cold War Memorial Groundbreaking & Book Signing

The Forest Service members of the CIA and workers from Area 51 were at Mt. Charleston outside Las Vegas for the groundbreaking of the nation's first Cold War Memorial on Saturday, November 17. This will enhance the regions international recognition for its role in America's victory in the Cold War. The Atomic Testing museum with its hands-on exhibits, the atomic test site with its bomb-ravaged structures and now the cold war memorial honoring America's heroes who lost their lives in America's longest war. Vistors can get a signed first-edition copy of Silent Heroes of the Cold War (Stephen's Press 2008) and learn more at this first public event on a multi-million dollar Forest Service project in the area.
